The month of October has barely peaked and the state is mostly shrouded in a golden tincture. Fall 2010 has fully begun! Rolling sheets of warm gold, of browns and russets dominate the Independent State's variant landscapes from its northern tip to its southern base. This is the backdrop for the 2010 New Hampshire Parade of Homes, a statewide event, for those who want to buy a brand new home. The residences are built and designed by a cadre of New Hampshire's top notch remodelers and home builders.

The Parade of Homes

This ‘parade’ is brought to us by the partnership of Homebuilders & Remodelers Association of New Hampshire (HBRANH) which includes "ten local home builders associations." The association is also made up of “nearly one thousand one hundred companies” and has a workforce of “60,000 New Hampshire citizens”..It is their mission to build better communities through “education, vision and advocacy.” The state’s “building industry” is well represented in the association’s membership. The President of the HBRANH is Merritt Peasley.

The first 'Parade of Homes' was in 2007 and each year since. The nation’s economic downturn has affected New Hampshire’s housing industry just like it has many other states but the HBRANH has managed to have this show even amidst a difficult market. This year, once again, the organization is gearing up to showcase a set of beautiful homes. The New Hampshire Parade of Homes 2010 is slated for the weekend of October 8th to 11th between the hours of 11:00 AM and 4 PM.

The Participants

A list of the participating development companies can be found at the HBRANH website. One of the participating companies is Ashwood Development Company. Ashwood is showcasing a number of homes this year including their Manor model, which is located at Oxbow Bluff, a new development in Concord, New Hampshire. When completed, Oxbow Bluff will have sixty homes. Features of the community include underground utilities, access to public libraries and pools. Oxbow Bluff is a short drive or walk from Beaver Meadow Golf Course and elementary school and is a mere10 minute walk away from trails that are right alongside the Merrimack River. Downtown Concord is also about fifteen minutes away by car. This community offers affordable living and convenience for first time buyers with less maintenance. The new development is also great for those looking to downsize. The convenience of all of these factors makes it a very attractive community.

The Parade of Homes 2010 is sponsored by a diverse group of companies and businesses in the state. New Hampshire is a great place to live not only because it is beautiful but because it has been declared the most livable state 5 years straight. It is a "great time to buy a home" in the state because lending rates in New Hampshire remain very low.

There is an array of great prizes to be won as a part of the New Hampshire’s Parade of Homes 2010 including the grand prize of a Traeger Junior pellet grill! Tickets for the upcoming event can be bought at participating stores. The admission for adults and children twelve and over is $5.00. Kids under twelve are free.

A ‘hothouse flower’ moves to New Hampshire

Who would have thought a ‘hothouse flower’ like me would finally settle in New Hampshire? I was born and raised in Barbados, a tiny island in the Caribbean. On any given day, temperatures in Barbados range from 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Nights are a little bit cooler but never prepared me for the winter temperatures of New Hampshire. I moved here in February 2008 and was quite shaken by the amount of snow on the ground and the cold temperatures.
